Homework Overview

Homework

Every pupil at AE Tuition will receive weekly homework. Homework is an opportunity for pupils to reinforce their understanding of what they have learnt and build confidence in each topic.

We recognise that it may sometimes be difficult for children to complete their homework because they don’t understand something, or a task has taken longer than expected. To assist parents in knowing what homework tasks have been set, the weekly homework is posted on the Parents’ Portal, along with a video covering the lesson content and homework.

AE Tuition believes that tuition works best when it is viewed as a partnership between student, parent and tuition provider. This tripartite partnership ensures that tuition is most effective. At the heart of this partnership is communication, which ensures that parents and children receive all the support they need.

To assist this tuition process, answer sheets are provided for every piece of work that is set, meaning parents can mark the work and know exactly how well their child has done every week. For simple mistakes and certain tasks parents may help correct their child’s understanding. Parents can record in the homework diary the particular areas of difficulty their child has to show where they may need reinforcement and individual support. Every week our Classroom Supervisors will review your child’s homework diary and their work, and address any areas where this additional support may be required. The teacher is kept fully informed of your child’s progress and specific areas of weakness. Occasionally, the teacher may authorise ‘extra help’ support sessions which will take place outside of the normal lesson time.

Pupils at AE Tuition are encouraged to do homework on a daily basis:

Pre-plus Foundation (Year 3) – About 30 minutes per day

Pre-plus Intermediate (Year 4) – About 45 minutes per day

11+ Full Preparation (Year 5) – About 1 hour per day, which increases in the run-up to the exams

Key Stage 3 Courses (Year 7-9) – About 30 to 45 minutes per day

Scholarship Course (Year 6-8) – About 45 minutes to an hour per day.

If you have any concerns about your child’s homework, it’s important that you reach out to us immediately, so we can offer support to your child and get them back on track with their homework.
