Year 5 11+ Remote Learning

During 2020/2021, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have been delivering our specialised tuition programme remotely.

For the new academic year (2021/2022) we are planning to return to classroom working (subject to government restrictions).

But due to the success of our remote learning delivery, as well as our traditional classroom-based course for Year 5 11+ preparation, we are also offering a Year 5 11+ remote learning course for academic year 2021/2022.

The Year 5 pupils who attend our remote learning course will experience the same level of support from our tuition team as our classroom-based pupils.

All books and materials are posted monthly to parents, well in advance of the lessons.

Pupils are supported by a qualified experienced teacher, two supervisors and eight classroom assistants. All staff are fully trained and are subjected to DBS checks.

Tuition will be delivered via two-hour Zoom sessions by the designated class teacher supported by supervisors and trained assistants. The session will involve on-line teaching by the class teacher, weekly instructions and contact with parents and individual one-to-one support for children on areas of difficulty. In addition, a two-hour professionally produced video covering all the main teaching content and homework and delivered by an experienced teacher will also be supplied on a weekly basis. The weekly videos are filmed by a professional film crew, using three cameras to ensure quality vision and sound. This should be viewed by children and will provide further support and explanation of teaching content.

All materials will be supplied by post well in advance of lessons (to UK addresses only) so children have everything they need for their lessons.

In summary:

The remote course is delivered via:

  1. A weekly two-hour professionally filmed video covering all the main teaching content of the course delivered by an experienced teacher
  2. A weekly two-hour Zoom session delivered by the class teacher with the support of two supervisors and eight classroom assistants at the designated lesson time. The assistants and supervisors are equipped with laptops which will have two high-definition educational cameras attached to them.  One camera will be able to view a book and the other will allow the child to view the assistant working with them.  Zoom technology will be used and this will also enable the whiteboard facility to be utilised
  3. All materials will be sent out on a monthly basis by post (to UK addresses only) in advance of lessons
  4. All assessments, mock exams, parent consultations will be delivered remotely
  5. A parents’ presentation video on the 11+ during the summer term
