Due to popular demand AE Tuition is running an additional Critical Thinking Skills Induction Session, Saturday 21st February 2026
The Reading Boys 11+ exam will be held on the 15th / 16th July this year. This means we will be running a free Critical Thinking Skills Induction Session and Advanced Courses at Easter and in the May half-term to ensure children are fully prepared for this exam.
The Reading Boys exam papers are devised by FSCE (Future Stories Community Enterprise Ltd) and parts of them will focus on critical thinking skills. These skills are defined as the ability to analyse information and form a judgment. Much of the exam involves multiple-choice and cloze style responses although there are some written requirements, including creative writing/creativity and English and maths in a more standard format.
AE Tuition has carefully studied the familiarisation material and the sample questions provided in the FSCE Familiarisation Guide. The questions cover all Key Stage 2 subject areas, however, there are limitations on the kind of questions that can be set. The questions tend to avoid detailed topic knowledge in particular subjects because the Key Stage 2 curriculum is unspecific in so many ways and some children would have studied some things that other children have not.
The session will be taken by Dr Stephen Curran; the Educational Director of AE Tuition Ltd. Appropriate materials will also be provided to ensure the children can practice their critical thinking skills.
Parents will be invited to join the beginning of the session and then to return half an hour before the end for further information and clarification.
