Courses Summary

11+ Preparation Courses

It does not matter which grammar school you aspire for your child to attend, or the specific exam criteria; our methodology is designed to align with all grammar school exams nationwide.

We provide Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 11+ courses (classroom-based or remote). These courses prepare children for 11+ exams in English, mathematics, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning for state grammar and independent schools.

There are two types of courses for each year group:
1. One Year 11+ courses – These courses run from September to July for Year 3 and Year 4. For Year 5, the course runs for 12 months from September to late August to ensure our pupils are prepared right up to the time when they sit their 11+ exams.

2. Short courses – These courses are more intense due to the fact that children have less time to prepare. Year 3 and Year 4 short courses run from January to July, and Year 5 short courses run from January to late August.

Independent School Entry for Years 6 to 8

The Scholarship Programme (for Independent School preparation) runs from September to December, in preparation for exams sat mainly in January.
Some children also join this course for further grammar school preparation. This is because some grammar schools require children to sit a second exam in maths and English later in October, November or December.

Children sitting for the Bucks Late Entry test (12+/13+) also attend this course, and extra tuition is provided in verbal and non-verbal reasoning by arrangement outside of the normal class times.

This course covers advanced English (creative writing, comprehension, grammar, syntax, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary), verbal reasoning, advanced mathematics, general knowledge, and interview technique.

Many of our children gain places in the top independent schools and often win scholarships.

Around 85% of children who attend our 11+ courses, for a year or more, achieve a pass score for a grammar school placement or independent school of their choice. Most of them reach above national standard in maths and English for SATs.

SATs and Secondary School Preparation

This course is designed to enhance a child’s confidence in English and mathematics, ensuring they are well-prepared for their SATs examinations and have a strong foundation for their secondary school education.

SATs can be a controversial issue among schools and parents. However, we believe that with appropriate preparation, preparing for SATs can significantly enhance a child’s knowledge and confidence, ensuring they are well-prepared not only for their SATs exams but also for a successful beginning to their secondary education.

Summer Courses

The summer holidays are a crucial opportunity to prepare for the 11+ exams that will take place as soon as children are back to school in September. With schools on break, Year 5 children and parents have the space to focus on exam preparation while still enjoying their holidays. Our summer courses are also ideal for children who enjoy the academic challenge and want to advance their knowledge and skillset.
We run classroom-based courses and remote courses. This means that if a course clashes with a family holiday it can be taken remotely, allowing the child to study even if the family are abroad or away from home. Children only need to dedicate a few hours daily to learning during their holiday.

Courses are run in the following subject areas:
• Advanced English (13 sessions)
• Advanced Maths (7 sessions)
• Verbal Reasoning, Non-verbal Reasoning and Technical English (10 sessions)
• Essential Maths (13 sessions)

Secondary School Courses

For many years, we have been providing secondary school core subjects tuition in English, mathematics, and science. The decision to offer KS3 secondary school tuition was driven by parent feedback, with many expressing a desire for their children’s AE Tuition experience to continue beyond primary education. We take pride in delivering tuition to Year 7, 8, and 9 pupils, enabling them to attain levels above the National Curriculum standard and excel in their GCSEs.

This is a one-year preparation course in English, maths and science for improvement in National Curriculum levels at Key Stage 3. However, parents do not need to enrol their child for the whole year as each subject is run for one term. Please see below for this year’s academic timetable. Parents can enrol by term depending on which subject their child needs support with, or for the whole year. The course is taught by three subject specialists. It is designed to boost performance in these key areas of the curriculum, rather than just repeat work that is covered at school.

High Achiever Scholarship Programme

Schools often identify talented or gifted children. The assessment method at AE Tuition will confirm whether a child is performing at an exceptional level. Should the assessment indicate this, parents will be informed and invited to consider enrolling their child on to our High Achiever Scholarship Programme.
